WHAT STARTED AS AN IDEA

Recognizing a need for limestone in the mid-Atlantic region following the end of the Civil War, Edward Dillon had the idea that he could barge limestone on the James River from Botetourt County, Va., to eastern markets. Soon after, the limestone-producing E. Dillon & Company was formed at Indian Rock as a producer of burnt lime, and it has thrived for generations. Today, Dillon is one of the oldest companies in America, and our quality products are known throughout the country.

TODAY, A ROCK SOLID LEGACY

Now, more than 150 years later, Dillon operates in state-of-the-art, high-tech facilities on a 700-acre site at Swords Creek, Va., which started up in 1962 and serves as a major employer in the area. Our location on the Clinch River in the picturesque Appalachian Mountains is a constant reminder of our obligation to protect and preserve our environment. We work to always be in harmony with our beautiful natural setting and our neighbors.

We are a company committed to providing highest quality, customized mineral products for a widely diverse customer base that spans the nation and into Canada. We provide a consistent supply that meets or exceeds our customers’ specifications. And we are committed to providing a safe, secure and satisfying workplace for our employees.

We are Dillon. Rock solid since 1868.

A Commitment to Safety and Quality

At Dillon, we are committed to safety and quality measures that protect our employees and benefit our customers. We believe every employee, in every job, has a role to play in building and sustaining a culture of safety and quality. This is accomplished every day through following our four key workplace priorities in their correct order.

The Protection of People. Our No. 1 priority is the health and safety of our employees, vendors, contractors and others affiliated with our business. This applies to workplace safety decisions, as well as general practices such as requiring personal protective equipment and minimizing COVID exposures. A culture of safety protects our No. 1 asset—our people.

Protection of Assets. Once we have created a safe environment, our second priority is the protection of assets. This includes physical plant and equipment, mobile equipment, and all other assets of our company. We accomplish this by strictly adhering to best practices of maintenance and repair, such as preventative maintenance programs, and routine physical inspections of assets for needed repair action. This assures reliability of assets for safe manufacturing of quality products without unplanned interruptions.

Quality of Product. After ensuring our employees are safe and our machinery is reliable, our focus and goal shifts to product quality. This translates into the assurance that Dillon’s products are always available and unquestionably top quality.

Production of Product. Once the top three priorities are met, we operate our production processes in a safe, secure manner where quantities take care of themselves.
